Light of Day-Paramount Theatre Asbury Park 1/18/2014
The 14th Annual Light of Day Concerts took place this past week in Asbury Park New Jersey, and also in New York City with a show on Wednesday night.
What has become known as Bob's Birthday Bash was held on Saturday January 18 at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park New Jersey. This show is the largest show of the festival. This is an expanded version of original Light of Day show when it started at the Stone Pony, moved to Tradewinds in Sea Bright New Jersey, moved back to the Stone Pony and then to Starland Ballroom in Sayerville New Jersey, before taking home in the Paramount Theatre back in 2009(I believe).
As noted in previous Light of Day posts, the show started as a birthday celebration for Bob Benjamin. As the years have passed, it has become a worldwide event raising funds and awareness for research of Parkinson's Disease.
Asbury Park plays host to a group of shows which range from Rock shows to kids concerts to Broadway themed shows, all for this great cause.
Saturday nights show at the Paramount Theatre was another epic show clocking in at the 7 hour mark. As always, there was a wide range of performers and surprise guests. Each performers set was followed by an acoustic act which got to perform a couple songs while the next performer set up. There was rarely a break and plenty of surprises. Musicians joined each other throughout the night which has become commonplace at these shows.
Lozenzo Semprini from Italy joined Joe D'Urso during his set. Vini Lopez and Peter Elkas(from Light of Day Canada) and joined Joe D'Urso. Photographer Danny Clinch joined Nicole Atkins for her opening song, and Bruce Springsteen joined both Jesse Malin and Willie Nile before joining Joe Grushecky for the final set. Mr. Springsteen was appeared at 10 of the 14 Light of Day shows.Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan and E Street Band saxophone player Ed Manion also joined Joe Grushecky for his set.
Two other major highlights were Mike Peters of the Alarm joining Joe D'Urso and Stone Caravan for a couple songs and also an amazing solo set towards the end of the show and Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls performing a great solo acoustic set loaded with plenty of his hits.Sadly, Mr. Rzeznik and Mr. Springsteen never shared the stage during the show. Still a great show as usual, and all for a great cause.
Here is as much as I could get of the setlist. Unfortunately, many titles will not be correct. Those songs will be followed by a question mark(?).

Light of Day Wonder Jam- Wonder Bar Asbury Park 1/16/2014
The Light of Day festival kicked off this week in Asbury Park New Jersey. I have included a couple very blurry pictures I took last night at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park New Jersey.
The Light of Day festival, mentioned in detail in earlier posts, aids in the funding or Parkinson's research.
I was able to catch Poppa John, Quincy Mumford & the Reason Why and Lisa Bouchelle who were part of the Wonder Jam show.
Poppa John and Lisa Bouchelle performed on the acoustic stage to the side of the main stage. Poppa John's set included a version of the Beatles Here Comes the Sun, while Lisa Bouchelles included a cover of Dolly Parton's Jolene and a new song which I believe was called Life.
Quincy Mumford and the Reason Why's set included No Excuse, A Hard Place, Baby Don't Go/D'yer Maker and Under the Covers.
Steal Your Face from Pennsylvania opened the show, but I only was able to catch their last song, a cover of the Grateful Dead's Shakedown Street.
I hope the festival is a huge success, all for a good cause.
