The annual
Light of Day festival began this week and Asbury Park New Jersey will be hosting a number of events.
The
Langosta Lounge held the 4th Annual Blue Hawk records showcase, which primarily included students who are part of the music program at
Monmouth University.
The show included
a brief speech from a representative of the Light of Day organization giving a history of the event and what the funds raised are used for. To date, it was mentioned that over $4,000,000 has been raised over the years.
This years show saw a pretty even mix of original songs and covers.
Francesca Rose started her set with a cover of
Marvin Gaye's What's Goin' On. She was followed by
The Emily Youth Project and then the
Subway Babes. The Carousers were up next and their set included the original
She's the Devil and a cover of
The Bouncing Souls Lean on Sheena.
Nicole Govel was next and her set included
Maroon 5's Sunday Morning,
The Eagles Hotel California,
San Francisco and
Amy Winehouse's Back to Black.
The Sentimental Gentlemen included a snippet of
I'm Your Man which led into
Faith as a tribute to
George Michael. Bobby Mahoney &
Zack Sandler performed next and included
Jesse Malin's Brooklyn into
Bruce Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town in their set.
Before the scheduled finale, an impromptu jam session took place which included
Joe Rapolla, the chair of the Music & Theatre department at Monmouth University,
John Esposito, the Chairman & CEO of Warner Music Nashville,
Vini "Mad Dog" Lopez,
Zack Sandler, John Bass and
Michael T. Grant from The Emily Youth Project. They performed Springsteen's
Glory Days and
The Beatles A Hard Days Night.
The finale saw different musicians trading places on The Beatle's
I Saw Her Standing There,
Thin Lizzy's The Boys Are Back in Town and
No Doubts Just a Girl.
A very fun night and all for a good cause.
