Eric Church - Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia 10-18-2014

Eric Church brought his Outsiders tour to Philadelphia this past Saturday, and it was an amazing show.
I got to see Church a couple years ago at the Levon Helm tribute at the Izod Center in New Jersey. I thought he was one of the highlights of a show which was full of amazing performers and performances.
Despite the arena rock look to the show, including a huge inflatable devil during the song Devil Devil, it was all country from opening act to headliner, and possibly the best show I have seen in years.
Brandy Clark opened with a half hour set of originals and a medley of two songs she co-wrote; Better Dig Two which was recorded by The Band Perry and Mama's Broken Heart which was recorded by Miranda Lambert. Great songwriter and singer and I hope she tours solo in the future.
Country legend Dwight Yoakam then performed a 50+ minute set. I knew maybe one song of his going into the show, and was blown away by how great he was. Great band and songs. I only wish he had played longer.
Eric Church's set was heavy on cuts from his the newest album The Outsiders and his last release, the breakthrough album Chief. But he did include a good amount of cuts from his first two albums and even took a request(as he does every night). This night we got Young and Wild from his Carolina cd.
He reminisced about playing in a small New Jersey venue and even playing a house party in Pennsylvania right after his first album came out. On a few occasions he thanked the fans for their support and never imagined while playing those small places, he would perform somewhere as big as the arenas he now fills.

The bar staff at this place was professional and their drinks ensured us a fun night in the city. I can't wait to go back to more events in NYC. Most of the negative elements of going to a more popular place are avoided here; the staff was really mature and respectful.
