Light of Day-Paramount Theatre, Asbury Park NJ, 1-16-2016

     The 16th Annual Light of Day festival came to Asbury Park New Jersey the week of January 11th, with final performances taking place on Sunday January 17.
     The Light of Day concerts, which are now worldwide, help raise funds for Parkinson's research.
      As usual, several venues held concerts with the main concert, Bob's Birthday Bash, taking place on Saturday January 16 at the Paramount Theatre. The concert is now an annual event originally started as a Birthday concert for Bob Benjamin, a music manager who has strong ties to the Jersey shore.
      This year it was made known that Bruce Springsteen would not be taking part due to his tour starting the same day.
      Many of the regular Light of Day performers returned this year, as long as some new additions. The format was the same as it has been for years. Full bands performed and in between the main stage sets, there were acoustic performances to keep keep the music going straight through.
       There were also a few special guests. David Bryan of Bon Jovi joined Matt O'Ree for the final song in his set, ex Bruce Springsteen drummer Vini Lopez & Peter Elkas joined Joe D'Urso and Stone Caravan during his set. And as usual, performers joined each other throughout the night.
        There were also several tributes to David Bowie who had passed away this last week.

Light of Day : Blue Hawk Records Showcase-Langosta Lounge 1/14/2016

     Langosta Lounge in Asbury Park New Jersey held their 3rd Annual Blue Hawk Records showcase as part of the Light of Day concert events to be held in the city this year.
     This year the line up included Jackson Weippert, Joey Affatato, The Dan Amato Trio, The Emily Youth Project and Brittany Cannarozzi with Vinnie Espinoza & Steve Fillipone.
      The short sets by each artist included originals and covers including Sunday Morning(Maroon 5) performed by The Emily Youth Project, Hungry Heart(Bruce Springsteen) performed by The Dan Amato Trio and the final song of the evening Moonage Daydream(David Bowie).

2016 Academy Award Predictions

     I originally thought Mad Max : Fury Road would be nominated, but think Star Wars may potentially replace it. The Academy will not nominate 2 action films. I do think George Miller will be nominated for director though. Sicario seems to be picking up steam lately, and Brooklyn looks like the kind of lush romantic film that sometimes gets nominated.
